Our relationship with our computer has changed over time as the computer has evolved from a glorified typewriter into an extraordinarily complex and powerful machine. And because we use it for a myriad of functions, including composing our thoughts, accomplishing work, communicating with family, friends, and business associates, and searching the Internet, our attachment to our computer is probably something we underestimate. But while the computer is able to handle all these processes and functions because of its exceptionally sophisticated microchip brain, the computer does not love us. Most of us probably spend more time on the computer each day than with our children. During the day, when we become aware that we are on the computer (for example, when we experience a body ache or our computer screen freezes), we can recite this verse as a reminder of our increasing reliance on the computer and that our child is not only far more brilliant than our computer, but possesses a heart and loves us deeply.
